Abstract

The transfer pump is configured to move hydraulic fluid in a hydraulic fluid management system of a hydraulic system of a vehicle including a transmission. In one embodiment, a transfer pump moves fluid from the differential case to a hydraulic reservoir connected to the transmission. Transfer pumps are positive displacement pumps that include an unloading device, such as a seal plate, that is resiliently biased against the pump during normal operation but moves away from the pump upon application of pilot pressure. The result is an open chamber that forces the pump gears to turn without causing pressure, reducing parasitic losses.
