Problems solved by technology

As defined in 3GPP TS 36.455V12.2.0, "E-UTRAN access point locations" are associated with PCIs, i.e., locations of TPs sharing the same PCI cannot be distinguished
Therefore, they cannot be used for OTDOA-based indoor positioning

Embodiment Construction

[0077] The embodiments set forth below present information to enable those skilled in the art to practice the embodiments and show the best mode of practicing the embodiments. Upon reading the following description in light of the accompanying drawings, those skilled in the art will understand the concepts of the disclosure and will recognize applications of these concepts not expressly addressed herein. It is to be understood that these concepts and applications fall within the scope of this disclosure and the appended claims.

[0078] Radio Node: As used herein, a "radio node" is a radio access node or wireless device.

[0079] Radio Access Node: As used herein, a "radio access node" is any node operating in a radio access network of a cellular communication network to transmit and / or receive signals wirelessly. Some examples of radio access nodes include, but are not limited to, base stations such as enhanced or evolved Node Bs (eNBs) in Third Generation Partnership Projec...

Abstract

Disclosed herein are systems and methods involving wireless device positioning based on cell-part-specific positioning reference signals (PRS) of multiple transmission points (TPs) in a shared cell. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a TP in a cellular communication network is provided. A TP is one of a plurality of non-colocated TPs with a shared cell identifier. The method of operation of the TP includes transmitting a PRS having at least one parameter that is a function of a cell part identifier of the TP, wherein the at least one parameter comprises a frequency shift of the PRS, a portion of system bandwidth in which the PRS is transmitted, and / or PRS sequence for PRS. By transmitting cell-part-specific PRS, TPs in a shared cell can enable wireless device location based on PRS transmitted by non-co-located TPs.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims the benefit of Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 144,141 filed April 7, 2015, the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to the transmission of positioning reference signals (PRS) in cellular communication networks. Background technique [0004] Location-based services and emergency call location drives the development of location in wireless networks. Positioning support in 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) was introduced in Release 9. This enables operators to retrieve location information for location-based services and to meet regulatory emergency call location requirements. Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled terminals are able to meet the requirements for positioning, but they cannot provide the required availability because satellite signals are blocked in urban and indo...
