Embodiment Construction

[0017] Referring to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals correspond to like or similar parts throughout the several views, and from figure 1 Initially, the exemplary vehicle 10 includes a navigation system 50 that uses a vehicle energy consumption model 52, an example of which is found in figure 2 is shown in , to automatically generate and display a possible travel route to the operator of the vehicle 10. image 3 An exemplary route screen 56 is shown in , while Figure 4 An embodiment of a method 100 for energy-optimized vehicle routing is shown in . The term "fuel" as used herein applies equally to gasoline, diesel, biofuels, ethanol or other alternative fuels. The term "energy" refers to fuel as well as electricity, for example, from a battery, fuel cell, or other power source on the vehicle 10. Therefore, either as figure 1 Whether a hybrid electric vehicle, a conventional vehicle, or a battery electric vehicle is shown, the energy mix for a given vehicle de...

Abstract

A method for generating energy-optimized travel routes with a vehicle navigation system includes generating candidate travel routes between a route origin and one or more route destinations, and thendividing each candidate travel route into a plurality of route segments. The method includes estimating expected travel speeds along each segment using cloud information and calculating an expected energy efficiency over each of the candidate travel routes using one or more vehicle-specific energy efficiency models. The travel routes are displayed via the navigation system, including a trace of the energy-optimized travel routes and an expected or relative energy efficiency along the energy-optimized travel routes. A vehicle includes the navigation system and a powertrain. A powertrain controller may control vehicle speed over a selected route to maintain an optimally energy-efficient speed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for determining an energy-optimized driving route for a vehicle. Background technique [0002] Vehicle navigation systems use GPS data for determining the user's current location. The current location is then displayed via geocoding and annotated maps. Exemplary map data may include terrain, road network, and point-of-interest information. Such information is typically transferred to the navigation system from a remote geospatial database or accessed from an on-board memory location. [0003] The recommended driving route may be determined by the navigation system based on the shortest time or distance between the origin of the route and the destination of the route for a given trip. The suggested driving route is then displayed as a map track and / or as turn-by-turn driving directions. This conventional method of route planning, while effective at determining the shortest distance or travel time...
