Embodiment Construction

[0013] Conventional systems and methods for machines cannot handle the situation where the device authenticating to the machine does not have a pre-existing user interface on its outer surface. Further, conventional systems and methods cannot incorporate The new device is added to the list of valid devices associated with the machine. In this case, when a new device is present on the machine, it may be necessary to contact the system administrator or back-office personnel to manually add the new device, causing delays and loss of immediate access to the machine through a valid device. Likewise, removal of such a device from the list of authorized devices must be performed manually in the background at the system administrator level.

[0014] Aspects of the present invention relate to addressing problems in conventional systems and methods for authenticating a device by a machine, particularly when the device is presented to the machine for association with the machine without...

Abstract

A method (300) for wireless authentication of a device (104a) to a machine (102) is provided. The device (104a) has a sensor (204) and the method (300) includes sensing, by a sensor (204) of the device (104a), a first input pattern of physical parameters received at the device (104a). The method (300) includes wirelessly transmitting, from the device (104a), an identification signal to a machine (102) upon said sensing of the first input pattern. The method (300) includes wirelessly receiving, at the device (104a), an authentication signal (320) indicating an authentication of the device (104a), wherein the device (104a) is configured to interact with the machine (102) upon the wireless receiving of the authentication.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to devices for machines, and more particularly to systems and methods for wirelessly authenticating devices to machines, the devices having sensors. Background technique [0002] Conventional systems and methods for machine equipment include a predetermined list of equipment, and the identification of the equipment is stored in the machine's memory prior to using a particular equipment in the list. Examples of such devices include electronic key fobs for accessing an operator's cab of a machine, work tools attachable to a machine, and the like. In use, a device simply transmits its device identifier to a reader or computer, and the identifier is matched against a predetermined list to determine if the device is a known device. This transmission of the device identifier can occur automatically without manual or user input when the device is in the vicinity of a reader or computer. Optionally, some conventional d...
