Abstract

Methods, devices and systems are disclosed for enabling unlicensed wireless channels to be used by nodes and devices in a network, such as a mobile or cellular communication network, operating primarily on licensed wireless channels. The selected channel, or selected channel and node pair, for serving the user equipment is determined based on a combined metric of the signal quality level and the target time sharing parameter. The time sharing parameter represents an available estimated data rate for each potential channel or channel and node pair according to the requirement to share the unlicensed wireless channel resources with other devices. The signal quality level represents an estimated signal quality for each channel and node at the user equipment based on factors including residual interference from other communication signals transmitted on the unlicensed channel.
