example 1

[0041] Example 1 is a device that can include a patella paddle body that can be formed from a single piece of material and that can include a central portion and a peripheral portion at least partially surrounding the central portion. The central portion includes a plurality of plate attachment holes provided therein, and the peripheral portion may include a plurality of protrusions. Each protrusion may be coupled to the central portion via a connector portion having a thickness that is less than about 80% of the plate thickness of the patella plate body. Each protrusion may include a protrusion attachment hole disposed therein. Each protrusion is selectively detachable from the patella paddle body. The patella paddle body may be sized to fit the patella in at least the horizontal and vertical directions.

[0042] In Example 2, the subject matter of Example 1 can optionally include a center portion comprising a pentagon.

example 13

[0053] Example 13 is a device comprising: an arcuate perimeter plate that is contoured to conform to substantially any perimeter of the patella and defines between its first and second ends a wall that extends along at least a portion of the perimeter of the patella. a length of the panel comprising a plurality of connection regions positioned along the length of the panel and a plurality of fastening regions positioned along the length of the panel, wherein at least some of the connection regions are positioned between two adjacent fastening regions, and Each fixation area includes an attachment hole disposed therein.

[0054] In Example 14, the subject matter of Example 13 can optionally include wherein the arcuate perimeter plate extends along the perimeter of the patella at least about one-fifth of the perimeter of the patella and less than about one-third of the perimeter of the patella .

Abstract

Patella fracture reduction plates and fracture reduction devices are described. More specifically, the patella reduction plate and device generally conforms to the anterior surface or perimeter of the patella and includes a plurality of attachment holes disposed therein for receiving fasteners. In some embodiments, the plates include removable tab members.

Description

[0001] priority application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 241,863, filed October 15, 2015, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. Background technique [0003] Fracture reduction devices are known in the prior art. For long bones such as the femur, tibia, and fibula, fractures can potentially be reduced using a plating system. Using a plating system can be challenging in bony areas where the bone includes curvature in multiple axes and where the skin is particularly tight against the bone. In such bony regions as the patella, other reduction methods have been employed. One such method or system includes a high tension mesh plate. Another method used in the prior art involves wiring or rope systems. In the case of mesh devices, the system typically requires the surgeon to cut the mesh plate to size and adapt the mesh to the patella of a given patient. Wiring and routing systems typicall...
