Abstract

The invention discloses a complex three-dimensional building model simplification method capable of maintaining appearance characteristics. The method includes the following steps that: (1) a model surface grid is divided into a plurality of sub-grids according to topological relations and color features and on the basis of a breadth-first search-based grid segmentation; (2) the geometrical simplification error calculation and texture simplification error calculation are integrated to calculate the simplification error of each edge of the model, and a simplification error formula comprehensively considers grid segmentation information as well as geometric error and texture error; and (3) with the half-edge collapse simplification of texture discontinuity features considered, edges with thesmallest error are selected from the grid so as to be subjected to half-edge collapse simplification, and after the simplification is performed, texture coordinate adjustment is carried out.
