[0038] Referring generally to the drawings, a virtual panel and components thereof for an access control system are shown, according to various exemplary embodiments. The virtual panel can provide all the features of a physical control panel in an access control system without any physical constraints on hardwired connections between readers, panels, and access control hosts. The virtual panel can be used for remote cardholder verification, authentication, access control, and many summoning applications all on mobile platforms. The virtual panels can be used with any access control system in the same way as physical panels. The virtual panel provides an intuitive and easily updatable user interface with plug-and-play components and software. The virtual panel can interface with a number of different access control systems and can emulate other panels if desired.

Abstract

An access control system for a building or campus includes an access control host and a mobile device. The access control host is configured to interact with one or more physical control panels to monitor and control physical access to one or more locations of the building or campus. The mobile device includes a virtual panel configured to emulate one or more of the physical control panels to theaccess control host and perform one or more access control functions of the physical control panels. The virtual panel configures the mobile device to operate as a portable control panel in the accesscontrol system.
