Abstract

In one embodiment, a routing request for routing an automated vehicle (ADV) from a source lane to a target lane is received. Determine one or more road paths from a source road to a target road. A road path includes zero or more intermediate roads between the source road and the target road, where each intermediate road includes one or more intermediate lanes. For each road path, one or more lane paths are determined. Each lane path includes a plurality of lanes combined to connect a source lane of the source road to a target lane of the target road via at least one intermediate lane of the intermediate road. Lane routing is used to plan a trajectory from the source lane of the source road to the target lane of the target road to drive the ADV according to the trajectory.
