Embodiment Construction

[0021] The following detailed description refers to the accompanying drawings. The same reference numbers in different drawings identify the same or similar elements.

[0022] As mentioned above, darkness can obscure objects in the camera's field of view. As a result, an operator (eg, and / or computer vision) may not be able to discern the object. As the term is used herein, "operator" includes computer vision. Cameras can also illuminate objects with light (eg, invisible light) for computer vision, for example. As described below, methods and systems allow an operator to illuminate a scene. Additionally, the lighting method may allow distance to objects to be measured for other purposes, such as autofocus. Furthermore, this distance can be used to adjust the lighting itself.

[0023] However, certain types of lighting are dangerous to the human eye at high enough intensities. For example, near-infrared light can be dangerous because a person cannot perceive the light, an...

Abstract

The present invention relates to laser ranging and lighting. A method may include: modulating a property of the laser with a reference signal to generate a transmit signal; and diverging the transmit signal to illuminate an illumination field with the transmit signal, wherein the illumination field includes an object. The method may include receiving, at the sensor, signals reflected from the illuminated field and the object, and comparing a phase of the received signal with a phase of a reference signal. The method may include calculating a distance to the object based on the comparison.

Description

Background technique [0001] Cameras and other surveillance equipment are proliferating as they become cheaper. Sometimes, however, darkness can blur or obscure objects in the camera's field of view. Therefore, the operator of the camera (or computer vision) may not be able to discern the object. Thus, the process of capturing an image of an object may involve lighting the scene and focusing on the object. Illumination sources can be natural or artificial, and attached to or detached from the camera. Focusing can be performed automatically by the camera or manually by the photographer. When focusing is performed automatically, the camera can detect the distance of the subject to focus on. Contents of the invention [0002] A method may include modulating a property of the laser with a reference signal to generate a transmit signal; and diverging the transmit signal to illuminate an illumination field with the transmit signal, wherein the illumination field includes an obj...
