Hydroxylamine serving as a key intermediate product of a nitrification reaction plays a connecting role for the balance of the whole nitrification process, so that the aims of increasing the cell yield of ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and inhibiting the activity of NOB can be achieved by appropriately adding hydroxylamine, and furthermore, stable short-cut nitrification is realized. However, hydroxylamine has toxicity, and therefore, AOB and NOB can simultaneously lose activity if hydroxylamine is excessively added.
