The apparatus comprises: a door movement detection unit configured to detect movement information of the sliding door from an image of a camera that captures an image of the inside of the sliding door; a moving object movement detection section configured to detect movement information of the moving object inside and outside the sliding door from the video image; a track intersection object detection section configured to detect presence information of an intersection object that intersects a track of the sliding door from the video image; and a door opening / closing control section configured to combine the information detected from each of the detection sections to control opening / closing of the sliding door.
