Embodiment Construction

[0029] Aspects of the present disclosure include systems and methods for lossless communication and processing of UHD video data from one or more UHD image sensors using existing HD video architectures. According to aspects of the present disclosure, processing UHD video data using currently available video architectures involves breaking down UHD video data from one or more UHD sensors into manageable segments. These segments are grouped into multiple channels that are propagated to HD video. In an illustrative embodiment, UHD video data may be provided from a UHD sensor in 5K x 5K frames at 30Hz, broken down into 720p60 segments. In an illustrative embodiment, the segments are combined into multiple channels of SMPTE424M 1080p60 video.

[0030] Some commonly used UHD image sensors generate image frames with 5120 x 5120 pixels per frame. However, according to aspects of the present disclosure, "UHD sensor" may refer to a variety of different types of image sensors that gene...

Abstract

The sensor data processing means may be coupled to a plurality of image sensors of different types. The device adjusts the frame transmission rate based on the number of sensors and the type of image data originating from the sensors to optimize utilization of bandwidth over the multiple transmission channels. The apparatus may be configured to transmit selected frames of the image data, identified as key frames, at a higher rate than non-selected frames of the image data.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure is in the field of image processing architectures, and more particularly in the field of ultra-high definition video processing. Background technique [0002] Ultra-high-definition (UHD) image sensors with large image formats and small pixel pitches are becoming commonly available for use in many new products and applications. However, conventional video architectures typically do not support the bandwidth and timing requirements of UHD sensors. New video architectures have been developed to support the bandwidth and timing requirements of UHD sensors; however, these new video architectures are often developed from the ground up for specific purposes without leveraging previously available hardware. [0003] Improvements in UHD sensor technology greatly exceed the bandwidth and transmission capabilities of many existing video transmission architectures. An extensive infrastructure of existing video hardware designed and configu...
