Embodiment Construction

[0048] refer to figure 1 , shows a crossbar 1 which together with a second identical crossbar provides a vise support for mounting a power tool 2 to a vise 3 .

[0049] The crossbar 1 is of elongate form and comprises a relatively flat upper side 1A and lower side 1B. The crossbar 1 has an upper part 1C and a lower part 1D. The upper portion 1C is longer than the lower portion to define an end portion 1E extending longitudinally beyond the lower portion 1D. The upper part 1C comprises a longitudinally extending groove 1F in the upper side 1A. The rail 1G extends longitudinally within the crossbar facing the groove 1F. The groove 1F leads to a longitudinal cavity 1H located between the groove 1F and the rail 1G in the upper part 1C. An opening 1J in each end face of the end 1E provides access to a cavity 1H for receiving a fastening nut 4 (in Figure 4 and 5 more clearly visible in ).

[0050] The crossbar 1 also includes a first pair of spaced apart transversely extendi...

Abstract

There is described apparatus for mounting a power tool to a vice, e.g. a vice-cum- workbench such as a Black and Decker(TM) Workmate(TM). The apparatus includes a support that may be releasably attached to or an integral part of the power tool. The support comprises one or more projections that when the tool is placed on top of the vice depend down for retainment by the vice's jaws, thereby rigidly supporting the power tool to the vice. The projections are retractable, e.g. through a pivoting action, in order that they do not destabilise the tool when it's supported on a surface other than a vice. The projections may be arranged to retract under the weight of the tool upon it.

Description

Background technique [0001] When operating a portable power tool, it may be necessary to temporarily attach the tool to a support surface, such as a portable workbench, in advance to ensure that the tool remains fixed in a fixed position during use. [0002] WO8402102 relates to a power tool support device for a workbench and vise. The support includes a plate arranged to be seated and held between the jaws of the vice. The power saw is arranged to be mounted below the board such that its blades protrude upwards through slots provided in the board. The weight of the tool and its use creates a downward shear force on the plate relative to the direction of the gripping force of the jaws, which can cause the plate to move within the jaws. [0003] EP0517582 relates to a clamp comprising a T-block which is screwed to the underside of the clamp. In use, the T-block is arranged to be held between the jaws of the table-cum-vice to retain the clamp on the table. The clamps contain...
