Abstract

The present invention provides a structured-light imaging system and a method for scanning a scene. The structured-light imaging system includes a projector, an image sensor and a controller. The projector projects a structured-light pattern onto a selected slice of a scene in which the selected slice of the scene includes a first predetermined size in a first direction and a second predeterminedsize in a second direction that is substantially orthogonal to the first direction. The image sensor scans the selected slice of the scene and generates an output corresponding to each region of at least one region of the selected slice. The image sensor and the projector are synchronized in an epipolar manner. The controller is coupled to the image sensor and detects whether an object is locatedwithin each scanned region and controls the projector to project the structured-light pattern a first plurality of times towards regions of the selected slice of the scene in which no object has beendetected.

Description

[0001] This patent application claims the benefit of priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 669,931, filed May 10, 2018, and U.S. Nonprovisional Patent Application No. 16 / 038,146, filed July 17, 2018, the U.S. The disclosure of the patent application is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0002] The subject matter disclosed herein relates to a structured light system and a method for the structured light system, and more particularly, to a low power structured light system with high sensitivity and a method for the low power structured light system with high sensitivity. Methods for Powering Structured Light Systems. Background technique [0003] In high ambient light conditions, three-dimensional (3D) structured light cameras require a high dynamic range in order to detect objects smaller than about four meters while also detecting objects much further away. High ambient light conditions can saturate the pixels of the camera'...
