Embodiment Construction

[0035] A 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless network may include a Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network. NB-IoT networks can benefit from using additional spectrum. NB-IoT multi-carrier operation consists of operating on an NB-IoT anchor carrier configured through higher layer signaling (e.g. Layer 3 Radio Resource Control (RRC)) NB-IoT non-anchor carrier. Non-anchor carriers do not have to be deployed on the 100-kHz grid (eg, any LTE in-band PRB can be used as non-anchor). At the end of connected mode operation, the UE can autonomously return to the anchor carrier.

[0036] LTE Rel-14 extends multi-carrier operation such that UEs can both monitor paging and perform random access on non-anchor carriers. Since a Rel-14 UE in RRC idle mode is able to operate (RA and paging) on a non-anchor carrier, the configuration is provided by common signaling. The network may broadcast the unanchored configuration in a new System Info...

Abstract

According to some embodiments, a method in a network node comprises broadcasting configuration information comprising: an absolute radio frequency channel number (ARFCN) identifying a frequency position of a first carrier, and an index identifying a frequency position of a second carrier relative to the ARFCN of the first carrier. The method further comprises paging a wireless device using the second carrier. A method in a wireless device comprises: receiving the broadcasted configuration information; determining the frequency position of the second carrier using the frequency position of thefirst carrier and the index of the second carrier; and monitoring the second carrier for paging information. The wireless device may comprise a narrowband Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) device, the firstcarrier may comprise a NB-IoT anchor carrier, and the second carrier may comprise a NB-IoT non-anchor carrier.

Description

technical field [0001] Certain embodiments are directed to wireless communications, and more particularly to PRB index configuration for non-anchor carrier configurations for narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) and multi-physical resource block (PRB) operation. Background technique [0002] The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) includes Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), which is a narrowband system developed for cellular IoT. The system is based on the existing LTE system and addresses an optimized network architecture and improved indoor coverage for a large number of devices with: (a) low-throughput devices (e.g., 2 kbps); (b) Low latency sensitivity (eg, ~10 seconds); (c) ultra-low device cost (eg, less than $5); and (d) low device power consumption (eg, 10-year battery life). [0003] Each cell in the system (~1 km 2 ) capable of serving thousands (~50 thousand) of devices such as sensors, gauges, actuators, and others. In order to use existing spectr...
