[0035] A 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless network may include a Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network. NB-IoT networks can benefit from using additional spectrum. NB-IoT multi-carrier operation consists of operating on an NB-IoT anchor carrier configured through higher layer signaling (e.g. Layer 3 Radio Resource Control (RRC)) NB-IoT non-anchor carrier. Non-anchor carriers do not have to be deployed on the 100-kHz grid (eg, any LTE in-band PRB can be used as non-anchor). At the end of connected mode operation, the UE can autonomously return to the anchor carrier.
[0036] LTE Rel-14 extends multi-carrier operation such that UEs can both monitor paging and perform random access on non-anchor carriers. Since a Rel-14 UE in RRC idle mode is able to operate (RA and paging) on a non-anchor carrier, the configuration is provided by common signaling. The network may broadcast the unanchored configuration in a new System Info...
