[0022] The device 10 shown in the drawing is used for the discontinuous production of ingots 1 made of metal 2, in particular steel, having a diameter preferably greater than 0.1 m 2 cross-section and a length of, for example, not exceeding 15 m. The cross section of the ingot 1 is preferably circular, but may also be rectangular or square, or have any other desired shape.
[0023] The device 10 comprises a ladle 11 from which liquid metal 2 can be discharged via a dispensing container 12 , which is optionally present, into a die 15 which is open at the bottom. Optionally, on the side facing the dispensing container 12 , a lining 16 can be arranged above the die 15 , which is surrounded in the radial direction by a heating device in the form of an induction coil 17 . The unit formed by the lining wall 16 and the heating device or the induction coil 17 is also referred to as a "riser". The feeder serves in particular to heat the liquid metal at the end of casting.
