other Embodiment approach

[0021] Other embodiments provide methods for forming substrates. The method comprises: continuously pressing a first heated glass material at a first temperature with chilled rolls to produce a second heated glass material at a second temperature and viscosity; and continuously pressing the second heated glass material with structured rolls to produce a second heated glass material at a second temperature and viscosity at Second, heating the glass material to form a pattern to obtain a patterned glass substrate. The structure roll includes a rolling surface from which a plurality of structures extends and a pattern in the patterned glass substrate corresponds to the plurality of structures. In some cases, the first heating glass material is an alkali-free metal material. In each case, the first heated glass material is molten. In some cases, the viscosity is less than 500 kP.

[0022] In some examples of the foregoing embodiments, the pattern in the patterned glass substrat...

Abstract

Embodiments are related to scalable surface feature formation in a substrate and, more particularly, to systems and methods for forming displays using mechanically pressed patterns. The system comprises: a cooling roller by which a first heated glass material at a first temperature is pressed to yield a second heated glass material at a second temperature and a viscosity; and a structure roller bywhich the second heated glass material is pressed to form a pattern into the second heated glass material to yield a pattern glass substrate, wherein the structure roller includes a rolling surface from which a plurality of structures extend, and wherein the pattern in the patterned glass substrate corresponds to the plurality of structures.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority under 35 U.S.C. §120 to U.S. Application Serial No. 15 / 581,382, filed April 28, 2017, which is based upon the contents of that application and is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] Embodiments relate to the formation of scaled surface features in substrates, and more particularly to systems and methods for forming displays using mechanically pressed patterns. Background technique [0004] LED displays, LED display components, and arrayed LED devices include a large number of diodes placed at designated locations across the surface of the display or device. Fluidic assembly can be used to assemble the diode relative to the substrate. This assembly is typically a random process whereby the LED devices are deposited into holes in the substrate. Forming such holes in the surface of the substrate using conventional laser damage and etc...
