Embodiment Construction

[0011] refer to figure 1 , shows an inkjet imaging system 120 . For the purposes of this disclosure, an imaging device is in the form of an inkjet printer employing one or more inkjet printheads and associated aqueous ink supplies. However, the present invention is applicable to any of a variety of other imaging devices that use an inkjet to eject one or more colorants onto one or more non-absorbing media. The imaging device includes a print engine for processing image data prior to generating control signals for the inkjet ejectors. The colorant may be ink, or any suitable substance including one or more dyes or pigments, and may be applied to the medium of choice. The colorant may be black or any other desired color, and a given imaging device may be capable of applying many different colorants to the media. The media is non-absorbent and can be in sheet, roll or other physical form.

Abstract

A Method of operating an ink jet printer that forms text data with non-absorbent media ink on non-absorbent media forms characters provided with structure that improves the integrity of the edges of the characters compared to previously known systems. The method includes modifying character pixels in image data to generate transmitting signals for the operation of an ink jet in a print head of anink jet printing device, generating transmitting signals for the operation of the ink jet from the modified character pixels, and operating the ink jet in the print head with the generated transmitting signals in order to eject the drops of non-absorbent media ink onto the non-absorbent media to form characters on the non-absorbent media. By modifying the character pixels, the number of characterpixels in a connection area is reduced that have characters that correspond to the values of the transmitting signals for activating an ink jet.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to inkjet printing of characters on media, and more particularly, to inkjet printing of characters with improved edge integrity on non-absorbent media. Background technique [0002] Inkjet printers have printheads operating a plurality of inkjets in each printhead to eject liquid ink droplets. Liquid ink may be stored in a reservoir located in the printer, or the ink may be provided in solid form and then melted to produce liquid ink, which is supplied to the reservoir for printing. A typical inkjet printer has one or more print heads. Each printhead typically contains a series of individual inkjets for ejecting ink droplets from an open gap to an image receiving member to form an image. The image receiving member can be a continuous web of recording media, an individual sheet of media carried by a media transport system, or it can be a rotating intermediate imaging member such as a print drum or belt. In eac...
