Embodiment Construction

[0020] The term "instrument" or "analyzer" may include any suitable device capable of analyzing or processing a biological sample. Examples of analyzers include PCR machines, flow cytometers, mass spectrometers, immunological analyzers, hematology analyzers, microbiology analyzers, and / or molecular biology analyzers. In particular, immunoanalyzers may include instruments on which immunoassays have been automated. Immunoassays may refer to laboratory methods used to determine the amount or concentration of an analyte in a sample based on the interaction of antibodies with antigens. Mass spectrometers can include instruments that can measure the masses and relative concentrations of atoms and molecules, and can be used to elucidate the chemical structures of molecules such as peptides and other chemical compounds.

[0021] The term "sample" can refer to something to be analyzed. "Sample" includes a biological sample or a chemical sample. A "biological sample" may include an o...

Abstract

Disclosed herein are methods and systems for automatically generating processing rules to be used for automated decision-making when operating instruments to analyze and process biological samples (e.g., for the presence, absence, or concentration of analytes). For example, some automatically generated processing rules may set forth conditions and criteria in which some test results obtained fromthe biological samples can be automatically validated and sent out, while other test results are flagged for additional review. The processing rules can be generated based on patterns observed with the actions taken for historical test results associated with similar biological samples.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 577,465, filed October 26, 2017, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] To diagnose disease or assess the health of a subject, typically one or more instruments will be used to collect a biological sample from the subject for evaluation. For example, a laboratory may have a range of different instruments available to perform tests on biological samples. These test results can be further analyzed and processed to formulate a diagnosis or determine the need for additional testing. [0004] In many cases, laboratory staff supervise biological samples as they go through the testing workflow, interpret accompanying test results, and make critical decisions about whether additional testing is required. Since these laboratories often test and analyze many subjects' biological samples at one time, there can...
