[0066] The fuel compositions of Examples 1 to 4 are shown in Table 2 below. Each of these fuel compositions was prepared from a gasoline base fuel having the properties listed in Table 1 below, and for each instance, an adjustment was made for the v% of heavy aromatics (aromatics having at least 10 carbon atoms) , so that it contains a certain amount of heavy aromatics (C9+) as specified in Table 2 below. Thus, Example 1 contains 0% v heavy aromatics, Example 2 contains 4% v heavy aromatics, Example 3 contains 8% v heavy aromatics, and Example 4 contains 12% v heavy aromatics.

Abstract

A method for reducing particulate emissions from a direct injection spark-ignition engine, wherein the method comprises fuelling the engine with a gasoline composition, wherein the gasoline composition comprises a hydrocarbon base fuel comprising not greater than 5% v aromatics of at least 9 carbon atoms, based on the base fuel, a T90 of up to 150 DEG C and a final boiling point not greater than 190 DEG C.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for reducing particulate emissions from a direct injection spark ignition engine. Background technique [0002] There is growing concern about the environmental impact of particulate emissions from spark ignition combustion engines, especially direct injection spark ignition engines. This has resulted in a growing demand for motor vehicles that can operate with reduced particulate emissions. [0003] Hydrocarbon fuels currently being developed for spark ignition combustion engines may not be optimized or actually beneficial for direct injection spark ignition engines, especially when it comes to particulate emission levels. Therefore, it is desirable to find a way to reduce particulate emissions from operating direct injection spark ignition engines. [0004] WO2004 / 113476 discloses gasoline compositions satisfying certain parameters for use as fuel in spark ignition engines such that the stability of the eng...
