The method comprises the following steps of: firstly, selecting a proper redundancy mode from different redundancy modes; solving the failure rate of each component in different redundancy modes according to the reliability of each component; according to a series reliability model ofthe relay protection device, solving the failure rate of the relay protection device after component combination, and selecting a redundancy mode with the highest cost under the condition that the reliability requirement is not met; and gradually increasing the number of the components one by one according to the sequence of the cost of the components from low to high until the reliability requirement of relay protection is met, thereby determining the redundancy number of each component which meets the reliability requirement of the relay protection device and has the minimum cost.
