Abstract

A variable pitch propeller assembly operably coupled with an engine and a method for controlling the pitch of a plurality of propeller blades of the variable pitch propeller assembly are provided. Inone example aspect, a variable pitch propeller assembly includes features for incorporating overspeed, feathering, and counter-pitch functionality in a single secondary control valve. The secondary control valve is operable to selectively allow a controlled amount of hydraulic fluid to flow to or out of the pitch actuation assembly such that the pitch of the propeller blades is adjustable to operate the variable pitch propeller assembly in one of a constant speed mode, a feathering mode, and a reverse pitch mode.
