The mobile terminal has a camera shooting function and a gradienter function. The method comprises the following steps: after entering a shooting state, detecting a front eye area of a detected person and forming a reference line based on recognized outer canthus points of two eyes; obtaining an eye appearance image when the reference line is determined as an actual level by using a gradienter of a mobile terminal; and identifying a light reflecting spot projected on the cornea of the detected person by a flash lamp according to the eye appearance image, positioning a pupil center, and obtaining a strabismus direction and size according to a position relation and a vector displacement of the pupil center and the light reflecting spot. The method can be implemented through a smart phone and expands a use occasion of eye appearance abnormity screening. The method can preliminarily diagnose common diseases such as strabismus and eyelid abnormality (upper eyelid ptosis and upper eyelid retraction) which cause an abnormal eye appearance, and provides a more accurate and complete quantitative detection result.
