[0085] Methods and apparatus are described herein for improving the quality of scans, such as intraoral scans of a patient's dental site. During a scanning session, a user of the scanner (eg, a dentist) may generate a number of different images (also referred to as scans) of a tooth site, a model of a tooth site, or other object. Images can be discrete images (eg, point-and-shoot images) or frames from video (eg, continuous scans). These images may not capture all areas of the tooth site and / or areas where there may be conflicting data between the images. For example, images recorded during a scanning session may not be adequately registered to other images, thus producing an incomplete alignment of the images of the scanning session. Historically, images that could not or should not have been registered to other images in the scan session could be discarded, causing the user to rescan the areas that were not captured.
