Problems solved by technology

However, the blades of a hacksaw are usually thin, so it is difficult to slide the blade guard over the blade of a hacksaw
Also, sliding a traditional blade guard over the blade can cause injury and the guard can easily be lost

Embodiment Construction

[0097] according to Figure 1-14C Aspects of the various embodiments of the invention shown provide a folding hacksaw 1 which will now be described. It should be understood that the drawings illustrate the general principles of the arrangement and that the invention is not limited to the precise mechanical arrangement shown. For example, the illustrated embodiment relates to a hacksaw, but it is understood that other hand saws where the frame provides tension to the blade may be included.

[0098] Folding bow saw 1 is suitable for figure 1 The expanded availability states shown and the figure 2 Move between the collapsed states shown.

[0099] In the expanded available state ( figure 1 ), the folding hacksaw 1 is unfolded and rigidly locked in a position that allows the hacksaw to tension the blade for cutting a workpiece. It is contemplated that the described folding hacksaw 1 may be suitable for cutting materials such as metal, plastic and wood.

Abstract

A collapsible or folding saw is provided as a compact hand tool that when folded covers and protects the blade. The folding saw is movable between an extended useable condition and a folded condition. The saw comprises a frame having a longitudinal telescoping upper member, and first and second collapsible side supports depending from the upper member. A blade is coupled between the first and second collapsible side supports, whereby a tensioning mechanism is provided to tension the blade. Further, a handle is provided having a first portion pivotably coupled to the frame and wherein the handle pivots between a first condition to form a free-end handle and a second handle condition where the handle engages the upper member and encapsulates the blade.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to folding hack saws. More particularly, but not exclusively, the present invention relates to a folding hacksaw having a tensioning and locking mechanism. Background technique [0002] A bow saw is a useful tool for cutting metal, plastic, or other materials. For example, a bow saw can be used in construction, home, military, search and rescue, or camping. [0003] Hack saws typically have a frame and a blade supported by the frame. A generally rectangular profile formed by the frame and blade is generally required to support the thin blade and provide a controlled and efficient cut. [0004] However, due to this profile, conventional hacksaws are often difficult to transport and / or store. The size and profile of many hacksaws won't fit in a toolbox or other storage options. As a result, the hacksaw may need to be shipped separately from other tools, or the hacksaw may take up too much space when it is in the storage...
