The system comprises an atmosphere lamp, which is disposed in a vehicle; and a control device, which is configured to control the color of the atmosphere lamp, wherein the control device is configured to receive the road traffic information from a satellite navigation system and control the atmosphere lamp to represent the road traffic information of the whole journey through different colors according to the road traffic information from the departure place to the destination of the vehicle. The invention also relates to a method for controlling the atmosphere lamp by using the atmosphere lamp system. According to the atmosphere lamp system, the road traffic information is combined with the atmosphere lamp, so that the atmosphere lamp can display the traffic condition from the current position of the vehicle to the destination position through different colors (such as red, yellow and green), a driver can pay attention to the traffic condition, meanwhile, the integration of the vehicle is improved, the requirement for mobile phone navigation during driving is lowered, and the design feeling of the atmosphere lamp is improved.
