Embodiment Construction

[0036]Referring to Figure 1, the preferred embodiment of the present invention consists of a pneumatic system comprising a compression cuff 21 connected by a connector 10 to a pump 20. The connector 10 has a connector part 11 connected to the pump 20 and a mating connector part 12 connected to the fluid line of the sheath 21 . The connector 10 carries a radio frequency identification device 30, ie a transponder. The transponder 30 is mounted on the connector part 12 connecting the compression jacket 21 to the pump 20 and a corresponding radio circuit is arranged in the pump 20 . Transponder 30 may be in the form of an annular ring affixed to connector member 12 around the fluid line outlet, or in any other suitable form affixed to or near connector member 12 . The transponder 30 typically includes: a coil, which acts as an antenna to transmit and receive signals; a capacitor, which temporarily stores the energy to drive the transponder; an integrated circuit, which provides c...

Abstract

A pneumatic system consists of an inflatable / deflatable article, for example, a compression garment (21) connected to a pump (20) by connectors (12 and 11), respectively. The connector (12) attached to the garment (21) carries an RFID transponder (30) and a corresponding radio circuit (31) is located within the pump (20). In use, the transponder (30) transmits and receives information to and from the pump radio circuit (31). The information exchanged is used by the pump control system to activate the pump and to operate the pump to provide the particular operating parameters for that garment, for example, pressure, inflation / deflation cycle duration of treatment, etc.

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates to pneumatic systems, and more particularly to pneumatic systems having inflatable / deflatable articles connected to a fluid source, such as a pump. Background technique [0002] Systems are known having an assembly for connecting an article to a fluid source, the assembly comprising an insert and a mating socket for receiving the insert to form a mated condition. The insert or socket includes a mechanical latch that cooperates with a groove on a corresponding surface of the other insert to mechanically lock or unlock the combined assembly. When mated, the insert and socket define a path for fluid to flow therethrough. A seal extends between the faces of the insert and socket to provide a tight fluid seal in the mated condition. [0003] WO 96 / 14785 describes a pneumatic system comprising an inflatable cushion connected to a pump by a connector mounted at the end of a fluid line from the inflatable cushion. The connector cannot...
