Embodiment Construction

[0027] figure 1The air conditioning system shown in non-realistic form in is designed for rail vehicles and includes a cooler 1 and a cold storage unit 12 . The cold storage unit 12 is designed as a PCM storage system with phase change material. The cooler 1 provides the cooling power required to air condition the passenger compartment (not shown) and to charge the PCM storage system 12 . The cold energy stored in the PCM storage system 12 is provided to components for air conditioning the passenger compartment during selected operating conditions of the rail vehicle, preferably during travel in a tunnel.

[0028] As can be seen from the figure, the cooling circuit is divided into a primary circuit (TOP) with refrigerant and a secondary circuit (BELOW) with a water-glycol mixture. All available refrigerants are suitable as primary circuit refrigerants, i.e. synthetic refrigerants (e.g. R134a) and natural refrigerants (e.g. CO2 or propane).

Abstract

The invention relates to an air-conditioning system for a rail vehicle with at least one refrigeration machine and at least one cold reservoir unit which is configured as a PCM reservoir with phase change material, wherein the refrigeration power required for air-conditioning of the passenger compartment and the refrigeration power required for charging of the PCM reservoir are provided by means of the refrigeration machine, and wherein the cold stored in the PCM reservoir is, in selected operating states of the rail vehicle, fed to the assemblies for the air-conditioning of the passenger compartment. A problem addressed by the invention is that of configuring said air-conditioning system such that such a large amount of cold can be conducted from a phase change material of the PCM reservoir into the passenger compartment that, during relatively long periods of travel in tunnels, the refrigeration machine, which is designed for generating cold, of the air-conditioning system is substantially deactivated and thus the release of relatively large amounts of heat from the rail vehicle in the tunnel is avoided. This problem is solved by virtue of the cooling circuit being divided into a primary circuit with a refrigerant and a secondary circuit with a water-glycol mixture, wherein said two circuits are each assigned specific assemblies, by means of the operative connection and mode of operation of which, during traveling operation outside a tunnel, the refrigeration machine primarily charges the cold reservoir unit with cold, and wherein, during non-operation of the refrigeration machine, the cold energy stored in the cold reservoir unit is fed to the water heat exchanger.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to an air-conditioning system for rail vehicles with at least one cooler and a cold storage unit designed as a PCM storage system with a phase change material, wherein the cooler provides the cooling power required to air-condition the passenger compartment and the cooling power required to charge the PCM storage system and, in selected operating states of the rail vehicle, to store in the PCM storage system Cold is provided to components for air conditioning the passenger compartment. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method of operating the air conditioning system. Background technique [0002] Various technical solutions are known for the air conditioning of passenger transport rail vehicles, with which heating or cooling of the passenger compartment is achieved. [0003] For example, DE 10 2009 056 968 B3 describes an air conditioning system for rail vehicles, in which the components required for air conditioning are a...
