Embodiment Construction

[0010] Figure 1A is a diagram of a system 100 for item similarity processing according to an exemplary embodiment. It should be noted that components are shown schematically in a greatly simplified form, with only those components being shown that are relevant to the understanding of the embodiments.

[0011] In addition, various components (identified in Figure 1A and Figure 1B Middle) and presents the arrangement of these components. It should be noted that other arrangements with more or fewer components are possible without departing from the teachings of item similarity processing presented herein and below.

[0012] System 100A provides a mechanism by which item codes of items in a product catalog are mapped to a multidimensional space as item vectors representing the context between each item in the multidimensional space. The context is exported as a schema with items detected in the transaction history. The similarity between commodities is determined based on t...

Abstract

A merchandise code of a merchandise is mapped to a multi-dimensional space as a merchandise vector based on a transaction context. The similarity between the commodity codes is based on the distance between the commodity codes in the multi-dimensional space. Alternative merchandise for the under-inventory merchandise are automatically identified based on merchandise similarity and based on feedback collected from the transaction. The alternative commodity is provided to the customer in real time during the transaction, a commodity picking service for commodity fulfillment, and a shelf management service for commodity shelf inventory are provided. In one embodiment, the alternative merchandise is further determined based on a particular transaction history for a given customer and particular feedback collected from the particular transaction history for the given customer.

Description

Background technique [0001] The COVID19 pandemic has exposed many problems in retail supply chain and inventory management. Customers' concerns about not having essential items available while locked down at home has led to shortages of many products on retailers' shelves. The lack of raw materials such as aluminum caused by unusually high sales of certain product lines has also caused manufacturers to stop producing certain products that rely on these raw materials for packaging. The result was a five-fold increase in online sales as customers worried about the risks of going out to the store and worrying that the essentials they wanted would be out of stock by the time they arrived. As a result, delays in delivery of ordered products are now commonplace in the industry due to high demand for online sales and depleted stocks of high demand product brands. [0002] A recent study showed that in 63% of out-of-stock cases, the retailer suffered a loss of sales or even lost cus...
