Abstract

A system for cooling aircraft components includes a compressor configured to receive air exhausted from a gas turbine engine and to compress the received air. In addition, the system includes a heat exchanger configured to receive compressed air from the compressor and cool the compressed air; and a turbine configured to receive the cooling air from the heat exchanger, where the cooling air expands as the cooling air flows through the turbine. Further, the system includes a defroster configured to receive expanded air from the turbine, the defroster further configured to capture frozen particulates from the expanded air. Thus, at least a portion of the cooling air from the heat exchanger is directed to the defroster to melt the captured frozen particulates.
