Abstract

A cryogenic refrigerator (10) is provided with: an expander (14) having a cooling stage; an exhaust gas temperature sensor (48) that measures the exhaust gas temperature of the expander (14) and outputs an exhaust gas temperature signal (T2) indicating the measured exhaust gas temperature; and a controller (110) for comparing the measured exhaust gas temperature with a reference temperature on the basis of the exhaust gas temperature signal (T2) during the execution of initial cooling for cooling the cooling table from the initial temperature to the ultralow temperature, and ending the initial cooling when the temperature difference between the measured exhaust gas temperature and the reference temperature is within a reference range.
