Embodiment Construction

[0045] In the figures, reference numeral 10 generally indicates an embodiment of an interdental cleaning device according to the invention.

[0046] The interdental cleaning device 10 includes a handle 12 . The handle 12 may be configured similarly to a conventional toothbrush. That is, the handle can be configured to provide suitable ergonomic features for manipulation. The handle 12 includes a gripping portion 14 . Grip portion 14 may include a suitable insert 16 to enhance the user's grip on portion 14 . The handle 12 includes an extension portion 18 that extends at an angle from the gripping portion 14 for ergonomic efficiency.

[0047] A cleaning head assembly 20 is mounted on the handle 12 . Cleaning head assembly 20 includes a head 22 mounted on extension 18 . The head 22 defines a cavity 24 ( Figure 6 ). An interdental cleaning member 26 is mounted on the head 22 to extend into the cavity 24 . The interdental cleaning member 26 includes interdental cleaning el...

Abstract

The invention relates to an interdental cleaning device. The interdental cleaning device comprises a handle. The cleaning head assembly is installed on the handle. The cleaning head assembly includes a head mounted on the handle, the head defining a cavity. An interdental cleaning member is mounted on the head to extend into the cavity, the interdental cleaning member including an interdental cleaning element. A plunger is mounted on the head, the plunger being reciprocally displaceable relative to the head between a working position in which the plunger is at least partially retracted into the cavity and a non-working position in which the plunger extends from the cavity. A spring mechanism is interposed between the plunger and the head such that movement of the plunger to the working position resists the bias of the spring mechanism. The plunger defines a longitudinally extending channel sized to receive a cleaning element. The interdental cleaning member is positioned such that when the plunger is in the operative position, the interdental cleaning element extends from the distal opening of the longitudinal channel and when the plunger is in the inoperative position, the interdental cleaning element is positioned within the plunger.

Description

[0001] field of invention [0002] The invention relates to an interdental cleaning device. Background technique [0003] The field of dental hygiene offers a wide range of tooth cleaning solutions. Toothbrushes come in many variants and include a large number of manual and electric units. The problem with toothbrushes, however, is that they generally do not remove biological mucous membranes and other debris between the teeth. [0004] Dental floss is effective for caries protection between contact points and is introduced as a thin thread in interdental spaces. Some of the disadvantages associated with flossing are the risk of injury, difficult handling and in some cases unusable such as in the case of dental bridges, fixed brackets and some orthodontic appliances. Additionally, flossing can lead to compaction of biological mucous membranes and debris down toward the gum line. [0005] The use of interdental devices (eg, brushes or probes) is also a common form of interd...
