Embodiment Construction

[0016] Reference will now be made in detail to the preferred embodiments of the invention, some of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

[0017] now refer to figure 1 , 2 , 3 and 4 describe a typical splash lubrication system according to the present invention, which system is suitable for supplying lubricating oil to moving elements such as generators, compressors, pumps and the like. The lubrication system 100 includes an oil tank 102 formed in a crankcase 104 of a device 106 using the lubrication system 100 and an oil thrower 108 connected to a crankshaft assembly 110 of the device.

[0018] In one embodiment, the oil slinger 108 includes a continuous oil slinger 112 attached to the crankshaft assembly 110 . Rotation of the crankshaft assembly 110 will cause the oil slinger to rotate so that lubricating oil 114 splashes from the oil sump 102 on the components in the equipment 106 that need to be lubricated (such as the crankshaft assembly 110, journal 116, ...

Abstract

A splash lubrication system having an oil slinger capable of providing an increased flow rate of lubricating and cooling oil to lubricated components of the system compared to conventional dip stick oil slingers while reducing oil atomization and oil loss through the crankcase vent is disclosed. In embodiments of the invention, the oil slinger is comprised of a disk coupled to the crankshaft assembly of the device being lubricated (e.g., an engine, pump, compressor, or the like) so that rotation of the crankshaft assembly rotates the disk for splashing lubricating oil from the crankcase's oil sump onto the moving parts of the device being lubricated by the lubricating system.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to the field of oil lubricating devices for engines, compressors, pumps and the like, and in particular to a disc oil skimmer suitable for oil lubricating engines, compressors, pumps and the like. Background technique [0002] In general, inexpensive oil-lubricated engines, compressors, pumps, and the like use splash lubrication systems to distribute oil in sumps to mechanical bearings, seals, valves, pistons, and other equipment that require lubrication and oil cooling on the components. A small protrusion of material or "oil dipstick" is attached to one or more moving elements so that with each revolution of the crankshaft, the dipstick dips into the oil sump at a rate sufficient to cause oil to splatter where lubrication is needed on the components. The size, shape and rate of the dipstick must be carefully designed to ensure adequate lubrication and oil cooling of all components while keeping atomization of...
