Problems solved by technology

However, if, for example, the optimum peak strain for an element is 3000 microstrain, subjecting an electromechanical transducer element to that amount of strain may result in damage to the element
Also, deformations within a tire during operation are often inconsistent in magnitude and direction, making it difficult to properly orient the transducer elements to efficiently utilize the energy from the deformations

Abstract

A bridge patch for use with a tire is provided. The bridge patch modifies the magnitude, orientation, or both of the mechanical forces, and particularly the stress-strain relationship, imparted by theinner liner of a tire in order to obtain the desired stress-strain relationship for operating an electromechanical transducer element attached to the bridge patch. The bridge patch includes at leastone pad configured for attachment to the inner liner of the tire, and a bridge member attached to the pad and separated from contact with the tire. In certain embodiments, bridge patch includes a bridge member that is arch-shaped and is connected to two pads, one each located on the ends of the bridge member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to a bridge patch connected to the inner liner of a tire carrying an electrical circuit with electromechanical transducer elements. The bridge patch is configured to apply a mechanical force to the electromechanical transducer element in a predetermined manner as the tire undergoes deformation. Background technique [0002] The incorporation of circuitry into the tire assembly can allow many functions, including pressure monitoring, temperature monitoring, and tracking of identification data and other information. Electromechanical transducer elements such as piezoelectric elements can be used to power the circuit. An electromechanical transducer element converts force applied to it into electrical energy used to operate an electrical circuit. [0003] One method of applying force to electromechanical transducer elements consists in exploiting tire deformation during vehicle operation. Deformation in a tire, f...
