Embodiment Construction

[0024] Reference will be made in detail to embodiments of the invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

[0025] Embodiments consistent with the present invention may include an equalization device or equalization method that uses and updates two sets of filter coefficients to reduce errors associated with the equalized output. In one embodiment, one or more filter coefficients may remain constant while the remaining coefficients are updated. In one embodiment, means implementing the invention cost effectively determine the coefficients of the equalizing means. Additionally, embodiments consistent with the present invention may be used in discrete multi-tone ("DMT") transceivers, such as DMT transceivers in ADSL systems, to reduce or eliminate channel effects on signals transmitted thereon, so The communication channel mentioned is, for example, a telephone line. Without limiting the scope of the present invention, the following paragraphs wi...

Abstract

An equalizing device includes a first filter, a target filter, an error determining device coupled with the first filter and the target filter, and a coefficient processor coupled with the error determining device. The first filter has a first set of coefficients and processes input signals transmitted through a communication channel to reduce channel response. The target filter has a second set of coefficients and generates a target channel output. The error determining device then processes an output of the first filter and the target channel output to generate error signals. The coefficient processor maintains constant at least one coefficient of the first or the second sets of coefficients and updates the remaining coefficients of the first and the second sets of coefficients based on the error signals.

Description

[0001] priority claim [0002] This application requires the application number No.60 / 485,386 filed on July 9, 2003, entitled "Adaptive Algorithm for Time Domain Equalizer of DMT-based Receiver (adaptive algorithm for time domain equalizer of DMT-based receiver)" U.S. Provisional Application, and priority of U.S. Provisional Application No. 60 / 484,313, filed July 3, 2003, entitled "Symbol Boundary Alignment for Discrete Multitone Transmission Systems" Right, the contents of both provisional applications are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to equalization. In particular, the present invention relates to an equalization device and method usable for processing signals transmitted via a communication channel. Background technique [0004] In the field of network communications, Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line ("ADSL") has become an advantageous choice for providing network or Internet connectivity. ADSL is a type of ...
