Embodiment Construction

[0020] 1 shows a shield box assembly 20 constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention; aligned with a circuit board 22 and seated in an opening 24 in a panel 26 . While the primary purpose of the shielding can assembly 20 is to provide shielding from electromagnetic radiation and electromagnetic interference ("EMI"), the can assembly also provides protection for the transceiver and its associated components, preventing them from being used in the shielding can assembly. The devices in it are damaged or touched during operation. Circuit board 22 has a series of conductive traces 27 formed on its upper surface 28 extending from holes or vias 29 in the circuit board to various circuit areas (not shown).

[0021] The shielding box assembly 20 is typically used to house a detachable transceiver element (not shown), typically used to convert light pulses into electrical signals, and may be referred to in the art as a form factor pluggable interface connector...

Abstract

An improved EMI shielding assembly for a transceiver provided in the form of a metal shielding box having interengaging cover and base portions. The cover portion has side walls that include leading edges that flare outwardly so that the cover portion side walls rest on and cover the base portion side walls. A curvilinear clip is formed on the side wall of the base portion, which engages with the flared portion to further facilitate the assembly of the shielding box assembly.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to junction boxes, or splice racks that provide protection and shielding from electromagnetic interference ("EMI"). Background technique [0002] Many different types of connector housings are known in the art. Some connector frames, such as that described in U.S. Patent No. 6,062,893, published May 16, 2000, utilize metal and plastic components and are intended to be used entirely as connectors, others, such as those described in US Patent No. 6,095,862, published August 1, 2000 U.S. Patent No. 1 describes a connector holder made entirely of metal to provide EMI shielding. This style of connector holder features a die-cast metal body and a stamped sheet metal shroud. It is difficult to obtain a reliable fit with this construction, and due to the large size of the die-cast body, this type of frame cannot be used in a "belly-to-belly" manner on the opposite side of the circuit board where the transceiver or othe...
