Rotary hydraulic pump actuated multi-stroke surgical instrument

A surgical instrument (e.g., endocutter, grasper, cutter, staplers, clip applier, access device, drug / gene therapy delivery device, and energy device using ultrasound, RF, laser, etc.) may benefit from having a plurality of hydraulically actuated subsystems (e.g., severing, stapling, articulation, locking / unlocking, lockout enabling / disabling, grasping, etc.) supplied with hydraulic power from a trigger actuated rotary pump (e.g., lobe pump, rotary gear pump, internal rotating gear pump, flexible vane rotor pump, rotary vane pump). Thereby, an available amount of mechanical advantage available at a firing trigger may be optimally distributed to various end effector components, perhaps sequenced by an electroactive polymer or piezoelelectrically actuated function switch block.

Apparatus and method for energy generation within a tire

Energy for in-tire use is generated from the load induced reciprocating deflection of the tire inner walls above the tire-to-road contact patch adjacent to the shoulder of the tire. This energy is used to power in-tire monitoring electronics. For pulsatile energy generation with capacitive capture, the capacitor is optimally selected in real-time as a function of pulse width to maximize energy capture, or as a function of the pulse-captured energy. The resulting energy pulses are also used to measure the time duration of the contact patch from which the contact patch length is determined thus providing real-time tire geometry and, with tire pressure, real time tire load and, with temperature, tire air molar content. The loads on all tires provide real time vehicle mass and mass distribution. For electrical energy generation, magnet-coil, piezo-electric, and other power conversions are applicable. For non-electric energy generation, fluid bellows, rotary pump, and other power conversions are applicable. Further, run flat tires are designed with a cutout to accommodate and protect electronic devices mounted on an inner surface when running flat.

Submersible electric pump

An improved electrical pump is first provided for use in a wellbore. The pump comprises a stator and a stator housing, and an armature and an armature housing. The stator housing and the armature housing define concentrically nested tubular bodies. The armature housing is configured to permit production fluids to flow therethrough. In one aspect, the stator and armature are assembled in connectible and interchangeable sections called “modules” that can be attached in series. In one aspect, the electrical operation of coils within the stator is protected from individual coil short-circuiting or failure by wiring them in parallel, rather than in series. In addition, each module may be wired in parallel. In this way, a failure of one stator module will not result in the failure of another stator module. In an embodiment of the present invention, the valves of the pump are capable of being retrieved by a wireline, without pulling the entire production string. A method for using a plurality of electrical pumps is also provided. The configuration of the electrical pumps allows multiple linear pumps to be placed in series with the production tubular member. Alternatively, a rotary pump design is provided which allows multiple rotary pumps to be placed in series with the production tubular member.

Remedial system to flush contaminants from tubing string

A method of cleaning debris from a string of production tubing in a well enables removal without pulling the string of rods that extend through the tubing. A rotary pump is suspended to a lower end of the tubing for pumping well fluid through the tubing to a wellhead at the surface. A motor assembly at the surface rotates the rods to drive the pump. A closure member is placed on a lower end of an elastomeric hose that will open when a selected level of internal fluid pressure is applied. The operator applies internal pressure to the hose at a pressure less than the selected level to increase rigidity of the hose. The operator inserts the hose through a port in a sidewall of the wellhead, the hose deflecting downward and into the tubing. At a desired point, the operator increases the internal pressure in the hose to open the closure member, then discharges a cleansing fluid into the tubing, which flows back up the tubing along with debris.

Rotary pump with coaxial magnetic coupling

The invention relates to a magnetic coupling pump, with the motor-driven part of the magnetic coupling lying radially inward and the radially outward part of the coupling, together with the pump rotor, having a floating fit in the pumped fluid such that the rotating part of the floating bearing is also radially arranged over the outer magnets. The wall of the pump housing can itself be embodied as the stationary part of the floating bearing with the possibility of direct external access (lubrication, sensor mechanism) and an effective convectional cooling. Dry running on operational faults can be avoided by means of the floating bearing arranged far to the outside, as the damaging gas fraction collects in the radial interior of the pump and remaining traces of liquid are continuously driven outwards and thus contribute to bearing lubrication. By means of an additional annular barrier, the loss of residual fluid can be prevented. The disclosed novel floating bearing permits a large volume separating case which itself permits components of the roller bearings of the motor-driven magnetic coupling section so much installation space that the axial installation length of the complete pump can be significantly shortened.
