Problems solved by technology

Thus, for each system sharing the resource, the systems fail to achieve fair access to the available communication resources—that is, one system may degrade the quality of the other, effectively impeding the other's operation
Moreover, the problems associated with the coexistence of dissimilar systems are not addressed

Embodiment Construction

[0026] In brief, the preferred embodiment of the present invention provides an architecture in which MS / BTSs in a network can determine whether they are "resource-responsible" (resource-responsible), and if they are not operating in resource-responsible , then provides a mechanism for automatically and spontaneously adjusting one or more operating parameters in a more resource-reliable manner. According to a preferred embodiment, a mechanism for enforcing reliable behavior is provided using resource reliable proxies. If a resource-responsible agent has been installed in a resource-unreliable communication unit, it may be activated after receiving a trigger. If the resource-responsible agent is not yet installed in the resource-unreliable communication unit, it is passed to the resource-unreliable communication unit, which adjusts one or more of its operating parameters in response to receiving the resource-responsible agent.

[0027] It is contemplated that the resource relia...

Abstract

A wireless communication system (200) comprises one or more communication networks supporting communications for a plurality of communication units on a shared communication resource. An identification function (144) identifies interference within, or non-availability of, a portion of the shared resource; and a communication adaptation function (142), responsive to a resource-responsible agent (140) that is triggered when interference is identified, reduces a level of interference or makes a portion of the shared resource available for use. A communication unit and a method of sharing a communication resource are also provided. In this manner, a mechanism identifies and targets those resource irresponsible users for automatic adjustment of their performance attributes to minimise interference in one or more communication networks.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an efficient method for sharing communication resources, in particular, to a mechanism for sharing communication resources in a communication system with many non-cooperative networks. Background technique [0002] In the field of the present invention, it is known that radio frequency resources are scarce and expensive. Therefore, spectral efficiency must be optimized when designing and operating cellular-based systems. This is critical, especially in the current wireless communication environment, where several operators compete for customers in the same frequency band. In current communication systems, there are many known spectrum allocation techniques. [0003] One known spectrum allocation technique is to allocate a fixed amount of spectrum to each operator in a particular communication system. Operators are entrusted with achieving specific goals in terms of volume of service served and coverage area supported...
