For example, a computer system can receive spectrometric data from a target coating. The spectrometric data can comprise spectrophotometric data, spectrocolorimetric data, data acquired via image processing, and / or any other similar data. The coating identification computer system processes the spectrometric data through a probabilistic colorant analysis. The probabilistic colorant analysis identifies a set of colorants that are likely present in the coating and associates each colorant with a probability that the colorant is present in the target coating. As used herein, colorants include pigments, including effect pigments, dyes, inks, stains, and any other related coating or coating component.
