Problems solved by technology

A disadvantage of this solution is that the communication with the monitor may take some time and may delay other tasks that need to be performed
Such a system has the disadvantage that data ownership cannot be changed to a different entity
This can be a problem especially in scenarios where several systems are weakly linked together
If a system is intentionally detached from the system, either temporarily or permanently, the remaining systems may lack data management rights to the detached system's objects

Embodiment Construction

[0015] figure 1 A scenario 100 is shown that includes four systems: a server system 102 and three client systems 104 , 106 and 108 . Each system may handle objects for one or more purposes, eg, through respective object manipulation applications 110 , 112 , 114 , and 116 . The applications in each system may be the same or different from the applications in any other system. The systems can share data within the scenario 100, for example by exchanging messages. In this example, server 102 includes data objects (DOs) 118 to be shared with any or all other systems.

[0016] A DO may correspond to a product, technical asset, contact, partner, or any other item or specific thing. DO is a specific instance of master data for this specific object; that is, it is a specific instance of the object model. A DO may include one or more object segments 120, which are specific instances of segments in the object model.

[0017] Each object segment 120 is associated with the identifier...

Abstract

Data administration may be managed by receiving in a computer system a first input identifying a data object to be assigned to a control object in the computer system. A second input for the control object is received in the computer system. The second input specifies a relationship between 1) model-level changes to the data object, and 2) instance-level changes to the data object. After the first and second inputs are received, the control object is sent to another computer system. The control object may be accessed to determine whether a system is authorized to make an object change. This access can be performed by the system about to make the change, or by a system that receives the object change from another system.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to managing data management in computer systems. Background technique [0002] Data governance generally includes the rights to create, change, delete, and take other actions on information in a computing environment. In particular, information in the form of data objects may be managed by someone, such as a specific system or a specific user with appropriate privileges. Typically, any object such as a product object is based on an object model that defines the behavior of the object and the segments that make it up, and this information can be stored in the system as "master data" or equivalent. Objects corresponding to specific products and their respective segments can then be created as instances of master data and can be used for various purposes. A distinction is made between changing some aspect of master data (which may be considered a model-level object change) and changing the value of an object or one of its i...
