Embodiment Construction

[0082] Referring to the drawings, there is shown in FIG. 1 an embodiment of a single backing grip G of the present invention coupled to a shaft 55 of a golf club GC. In FIG. 2, a single backing golf putter grip PG is shown connected to the shaft 57 of the putter P. As shown in FIG. Referring now to the remaining figures, a preferred form of handle G comprises a single backing handle S consisting of an outer layer 60 of polymer, preferably polyurethane, bonded together, and an elastic inner sleeve U wrapped and bonded to a conventional structure. The inner layer 62 is composed of a polymer, preferably ethylene glycol diacetate copolymer (EVA).

[0083] The outer layer 60 of the single liner disclosed herein is generally referred to as a polyurethane layer. While polyurethane is the preferred material, other materials can be used with some advantage. In particular, other polymeric adhesive compounds may also be used to form the outer layer and achieve certain advantages. Like...

Abstract

A grip for the handle of a golf club having a single panel that is wrapped about an underlisting sleeve. The inside layer is EVA and the side edges of the panel abut. The unitary grip reduces impact shock, provides a feeling of tackiness and resists the absorption of moisture.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an improved grip for a golf club. Background technique [0002] Applicants have previously developed resilient grips that successfully reduce shock vibrations to the golf club user's muscles and arm joints, and provide a tackiness feel between the player's hand and the grip. See, eg, US Patent No. 5,797,813, issued August 25, 1998 to the Applicant. This early grip utilized a polyurethane-felt strip that was helically wrapped around the sleeve and bonded to the inner sleeve of the golf club grip. The sides of the strip are formed with overlapping hot-pressed recessed reinforcing edges. Although this handle has proven to have a very satisfactory effect in reducing shock vibrations, its manufacture is labor intensive, especially since the strap has to be hand-wound on the inner bushing under specific pressure parameters. Additionally, when the tape is helically wound around the inner liner, it is difficult to precisely ...
