Abstract

A filter holder (23) for supporting a filter pad in a coffee machine. The filter holder (23) comprises a disc with a discharge opening (31) in its center. A plurality of support protrusions (33) are provided on one surface of the filter holder (23). When the filter pad is on the filter holder (23), the underside of the filter pad rests on the support protrusions (33), so the liquid (coffee) flows out of the bottom of the filter pad and flows over the surface (32) . A strainer (34) is positioned around the discharge opening (26). In this example, the screen (34) includes upstanding members (35) spaced apart at a distance to provide apertures (36). The width of the hole (36) is equal to or smaller than the width of the outlet (31 ), allowing liquid (coffee) to pass from the surface (32) to the outlet (31 ), while preventing particles such as stray coffee grounds from reaching and clogging the outlet (31).
