Catheter having tri-axial force sensor

A catheter for diagnosis or treatment of a vessel or organ is provided in which a flexible elongated body includes a tri-axial force sensor formed of a housing and a plurality of optical fibers associated with the housing that measure changes in the intensity of light reflected from the lateral surfaces of the housing resulting from deformation caused by forces applied to a distal extremity of the housing. A controller receives an output of the optical fibers and computes a multi-dimensional force vector corresponding to the contact force.

Structures and Methods for the Joint Delivery of Fluids and Light

Guides for intubation which simultaneously transport fluids and light into a body site are tube-like in structure and consist of a hollow cylindrical optical core surrounded on its inner and outer walls by a cladding of lower index of refraction. Materials comprising the optical core are selected such that the optical absorption and scatter are sufficiently small to transport light efficiently over an extended distance as fluid is transferred through the tube interior. Methods of fabrication, light coupling and light delivery using waveguide tubes are disclosed. Particular applications of waveguide tubes in the medical and industrial sectors are described.

Intrusion detection radar system

An outdoor microwave transceiver intrusion detector that alternately transmits pulses of RF energy at two different frequencies and uses range and direction of travel information derived from the phase of the two Doppler responses to optimize the signal processing and apply range dependent thresholds. The time delay between the onset of the transmitted pulse and the sample of the Doppler response is controlled to provide an accurate range cutoff. The two frequencies are selected so that the difference in phase of the Doppler response at the two frequencies increases from zero to ninety degrees as the target goes from the Transceiver to the maximum range. Digital signal processing is used to measure the difference in phase of the two Doppler responses and translate this information into location of the target. The location information is used to create a number of range bins. The response integration time and the threshold level are optimized for each of the range bins thereby minimizing the number of nuisance alarms.

The invention disclosed herein provides a subsonic wind tunnel capable for accurately maintaining a desired Mach number, pressure and temperature for use in aerothermal testing of materials. The invention allows the Mach number to be precisely controlled in the test section of the wind tunnel by employing a restricted outlet acting as a sonic throat for the wind tunnel. In the preferred embodiment, the restricted outlet is constructed to be variable in cross sectional area allowing a range of Mach numbers to be tested. The variable outlet is varied during the operation of the wind tunnel so that an actual trajectory with changing Mach numbers, pressure, and temperature is simulated.

Method and apparatus for the mounting of and circumferential displacement of radial forces in a stator core assembly

The present invention facilitates the placement of laminations 10 onto keybars 6 of stator generators frames 2. Laminations need to be tightly fit onto keybars 6, however, the same need for tightness makes stacking laminations onto keybars particularly onerous. This is magnified when donuts, which are preassembled groups of laminations, are attempted to be stacked onto the keybars 6. The present invention provides for enlarged grooves 12 that more easily accept the keybars. This makes stacking laminations, both individually and in donuts, much easier. The laminations are then held in position by the insertion of a wedge 16. The wedge may be placed to disperse forces 20 transferred to the laminations in a circumferential manner 22.
