Balloon catheter

A balloon catheter in which a high-frequency current is supplied between electrodes spaced in a balloon, the liquid in the balloon is heated, and the heat conducted through the balloon ablates the organism tissue in contact with the balloon, characterized in that the area of the surface of each electrode is 20 mm2 or more or a potential detecting electrode for detecting the potential at an abrasion portion is disposed outside the balloon and in a position at least before or behind the balloon.

Method of reducing sebum production by application of pulsed light

A method of reducing sebum production in human skin, used primarily for cosmetic purposes, including the prevention of acne vulgaris, comprising the use of pulsed light having a wavelength, if monochromatic, or a wavelength range, if produced by a filtered non-monochromatic source, which targets the lipids contained within the sebaceous gland, thus destroying the differentiated and mature sebocytes by photothermolysis without damage to the surrounding and overlying tissue or to the basement membrane of the sebaceous gland.

Drive unit with coolant flow through a space separating an inverter from a casing housing an electric motor

A drive unit which uses an electric motor as a power source and has an integrated inverter, with a cooling circuit for the electric motor and the inverter. The drive unit includes a drive unit case, the electric motor housed within the case, and the inverter fixed to the case. A coolant flow passage is provided between the drive unit case and the inverter. The inverter is fixed to the drive unit case through a panel wall, and a partition divides the coolant flow passage into chambers which are coextensive in parallel. As a result, the coolant which flows through the coolant flow passage acts as a two-stage heat shield, barring the heat generated by the electric motor from being transmitted to the inverter.

Pressure wave generator and production method therefor

A pressure wave generator is provided, which has excellent output stability over time. This pressure wave generator comprises a substrate, a heat generating layer, and a heat insulating layer formed between the substrate and the heat generating layer. A pressure wave is generated in a surrounding medium (air) by a change in temperature of the heat generating layer, which is caused upon energization of the heat generating layer. The heat insulating layer comprises a porous layer and a barrier layer formed between the porous layer and the heat generating layer to prevent diffusion of reactive substances such as oxygen and moisture in the air and impurities into the porous layer. By the formation of the barrier layer, it is possible to prevent a reduction in output of the pressure wave generator caused by a change over time of the porous layer.

Microwave antenna for medical ablation

A microwave antenna suitable for cardiac ablation, in particular for catheter ablation, and a method for making such an antenna. The antenna comprises a transmission line having an inner conductor, an outer conductor, and a dielectric insulator to provide insulation between the inner and outer conductors. An energy emitting antenna element is located at the distal end of the transmission line. The antenna element has an inner conductor which is electrically coupled to the inner conductor of the transmission line, and, around the inner conductor, a sheath of dielectric insulator continuous with the insulator of the transmission line. At its distal end, a hollow metallic cap is electrically connected to the inner conductor, surrounding a length of the insulator.

Motor vehicle dehumidifier with drying agent and drying agent regenerative control

A motor vehicle dehumidifier, including a dehumidifying drying agent, that can provide a required dehumidifying capacity with a reduced overall quantity of drying agent compared to conventional drying agent-based dehumidifiers. In the present invention, a heat exchanger is disposed on an upstream side of a drying agent unit, and heat is exchanged in the heat exchanger between inside air to be dehumidified and low-temperature outside air used to cool the inside air. The air cooled by the heat exchanger flows into the drying agent unit and is dehumidified. Because the air has an increased relative humidity as a result of being cooled, the amount of water adsorbed from it per unit of drying agent is increased, as the water adsorption characteristic of the drying agent is greatly influenced by the relative humidity of the air passing over it, and is markedly improved by an increase in the relative humidity of that air.

Well treating compositions containing water superabsorbent material and method of using the same

A well treating composition containing a polysaccharide-based water-superabsorbent material has particularly applicability as a thermal insulating, fracturing or acid stimulation fluid. The water-superabsorbent material is capable of absorbing, at a minimum, its own weight. Particularly effective are biodegradable materials containing guar gum and carrageenan. The composition may further contain a crosslinking agent, brine and / or a viscosifying polymer or a gelling agent. As an oil-based fluid, the crosslinking agent is absorbed onto the water-superabsorbent material and serves to effectively delay crosslinking.

Light emitting device

An object of the present invention is to provide a light emitting device which satisfies both properties of excellent color rendering properties for color reproduction and good light emitting efficacy, both of which are in the mutual trade-off relationship, by using a blue semiconductor laser which emits blue wavelength light with good light emitting efficiency and which has a linear spectrum in the blue wavelength band. A light emitting device is comprised of at least a first unit and at least a second unit. The first unit is comprised of a first excitation light source comprising a laser element emitting blue wavelength band excitation light, a wavelength converting member comprising at least one type of fluorescent material and which absorbs at least a portion of an excitation light emitted from the first excitation light source, converts the wavelength, and releases light with a wavelength longer than the first excitation light, and a light guide which has a refractive index in the center region of the cross-section which is higher than the refractive index of the surrounding region and which transmits the excitation light emitted from the first excitation light source. The second unit is comprised of a second excitation light source comprising a laser element which emits excitation light with a wavelength band shorter than the blue wavelength band excitation light emitted by the laser element, a wavelength converting member, and a light guide.
