A tracheal cannula of the invention includes a breathing path for supplying and discharging air formed between a basal end for connection with a breathing tube extending from an external artificial respirator and a distal end for insertion into a patient's trachea, and a trachea side opening formed at the distal end of the breathing path. Besides and along the breathing path, a suction path is provided for sucking phlegm accumulated in the patient's trachea. By interposing an adapter between the endotracheal or tracheal tube inserted to a patient and the ventilation and suction systems that are connected to the endotracheal tube, a medication catheter could be inserted via an input port built into the adapter so as to enable a medical personnel to provide medicaments to a patient without having to disconnect either one of the systems connected to the endotracheal tube. The adapter is configured to have a securing mechanism that allows the medical personnel to secure the medication catheter in place. A one way valve fitted to the apertured arm that forms the input port of the adapter prevents any back flow of fluid from the input port. The medication catheter is manufactured with calibration markings, most likely equally spaced, and a radiopaque line along its length to enhance the maneuvering and the positioning thereof in the patient so that the distal tip of the medication catheter could be accurately positioned to the desired location of the patient's tracheal/bronchial tree. The invention provides a lower jaw supporter, which solves the problem that can not be solved in the prior art; the problem is upper airway obstruction (snoring) of non-trachea cannula general anesthesia patients and unconscious patients including patients of coma, alcoholic intoxication, toxicosis and the like. The technique proposal is that the lower jaw supporter comprises a tie plate and movable supports which are arranged at the left and the right sides of the tie plate; and the upper end of the movable support is provided with a lower jaw angle fixed disk which is adaptive to the shape of lower jaw angle. The disclosed endotracheal tube includes a silicone tubular member that has a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending through the member to supply air from the proximal end to the distal end. The tubular member defines a first zone and a second zone. At least a portion of the first zone has a first outer diameter. The second zone has a second outer diameter. The first outer diameter is less than the second outer diameter. The first and second zones are adjacent to one another and are configured for insertion into the trachea of a human patient. A silicone cuff is attached to the tubular member such that the cuff extends over at least a portion of the first zone. The silicone cuff is mounted such that when the cuff is inflated in a trachea, the cuff reaches its plateau pressure prior to circumferentially contacting the inner wall of the trachea so that an accurate pressure reading may be taken of the pressure the cuff exerts on an inner wall of the trachea.

The present invention provides in some embodiments, an endotracheal tube with subglottic secretion suction and a detachable suction line. The endotracheal tube is an elongate tube having an outer wall defining an elongate central lumen and an elongate suction lumen. The outer wall also defines an opening to the suction lumen near a distal end of the endotracheal tube An inflatable cuff is attached near a distal end of the elongate tube. The shoulder of the inflatable cuff is inverted in order to increase the diameter of the cuff from its distal end to its proximal end. A diffuser cap is positioned over the opening to the suction lumen and defines a fluid flow path for secretions into the suction lumen through the opening to the suction lumen.

A controllable intubating stylet (CIS) for use by anesthesia and other health care providers is used in conjunction with a video laryngoscope and endotracheal tube in order to achieve intubation of the trachea for general anesthesia as well as other medical conditions. The video laryngoscope is used to visualize the tracheal opening. The CIS is inserted into an endotracheal tube and directed into the trachea. The endotracheal tube then is maneuvered over the stylet and into the trachea, and thereafter, the CIS is removed. The patient can then be oxygenated and ventilated by way of the endotracheal tube. The CIS includes a control mechanism similar to current bronchoscopes which allows for flexion of the tip and overall flexibility of the stylet. An endotracheal tube and gastrointestinal tube attachment device for positively securing an endotracheal tube and a gastrointestinal tube to a patient and allowing selective lateral positioning and locking of the gastrointestinal tube without removing the device or tube from the patient is disclosed. A rapid orotracheal intubation guide device is disclosed that facilitates orotracheal intubation or direct orotracheal visualization without resting the device on the subject's tongue and that, during a bronchoscopic intubation, automatically ejects the endotracheal tube from the device as the endotracheal tube is advanced coaxially over a bronchoscope previous placed through the guide, thereby providing a mid-line entry of the bronchoscope and endotracheal tube, higher intubation success rate by lower skilled operators, and easy removal of the device from the patient's oral cavity.

In at least one embodiment, the endotracheal tube includes an additional suction channel, an above-the-cuff suction channel adapted to remove secretions above the cuff outside the endotracheal tube and within the trachea. Additionally, in at least one embodiment, the endotracheal tube is configured for use with an endoscope for videolaryngoscopy, and the like. Furthermore, in at least one embodiment, an improved technology for the administration of medications within the tracheobronchial system is disclosed.
