Embodiment Construction

[0055] The propulsion pod apparatus 1 for propelling a ship shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is a "screw pump type pod apparatus".

[0056] The propulsion pod arrangement comprises an approximately torpedo-shaped pod 10 having a longitudinal axis XX' and enclosing a propulsion propeller 13 for actuating a propulsion propeller 13 located at the rear end of said pod (i.e. the left side in FIG. 1 ). A motor such as an electric motor (not shown).

[0057] Said longitudinal axis X-X' extends in the horizontal plane when the gondola arrangement is in operation on board.

[0058] Said propulsion propeller 13 is surrounded by a ring 11 provided with guide vanes. For the sake of clarity, the wings are not shown in the figures.

[0059] A description of the structure and operation of such devices can be found in French patent application No. 0450842, publication No. FR 2 869 586 .

[0060] Said pod 10 is fixed longitudinally at its top surface on a strut 12 whose main function is to connect said...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a propulsion pod device for propulsion vessel, which comprises a pod (10), which is arranged with vertical axes (X-X') and a motor for driving a propulsion airscrew locating on the front or rear of the pod; and a stanchion (12), which connects the pod mechanically and ensures the pod enclose a rotary device (121) which rotates around a vertical axes (Y-Y') being vertical to the vertical axes (X-X') of the pod. The propulsion pod device is characterized in that at least the rotary device (121) is deposited in a vessel (2) which is arranged with two vertical surfaces (22, 23) being parallel to the vertical axes (X-X'), the vertical surfaces form bearing surface for supporting the complementary surface (52) fixed on the vessel body (4) of the vessel.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a propulsion pod set for propulsion of a ship. [0002] The invention also relates to a ship, in particular a cruise ship, equipped with such a propulsion pod arrangement, and a device for placing such a propulsion pod arrangement on board and unloading it from the ship. Background technique [0003] In the world of cruise ships, the trend in recent years has been to build larger and larger ships. [0004] As an example, the size of the cruise ship "Queen Mary 2", which was commissioned a few years ago, is approximately 150,000 UMS in Universal Measurement System (UMS) units. [0005] The size of ships built today is about 200,000 UMS. [0006] This "huge" nature will cause certain problems when the ship fails. [0007] As with any commercial vessel, while it is laid up for repairs to its propulsion pod equipment, there is a financial loss to its owner as the vessel is not serving a commercial function. [0008] In fact, a ...
