Embodiment Construction

[0017] In the drawings showing preferred embodiments of the invention, like numerals are used to designate like and corresponding parts in the different drawings.

[0018] FIG. 1 is an illustration of one embodiment of an ophthalmic surgical console 100 . Surgical console 100 may include rotating display 110 with touch screen 115 . The rotating display 110 can be placed in a variety of different orientations for anyone who needs to see the touch screen 115 . The swivel display 110 can be flipped from side to side and can also be rotated or tilted. Touch screen 115 provides a graphical user interface (“GUI”) that allows a user to interact with console 100 .

[0019] Surgical console 100 also includes a connection panel 120 for connecting various tools and consumables to surgical console 100 . The connection panel 120 may include, for example, condensation connectors, connectors for various handpieces, and a cartridge receiver 125 . Surgical console 100 may also include vari...

Abstract

The present invention relates to devices and methods for controlling the flow of aspiration fluid within a suction chamber in a surgical cassette. One embodiment of the present invention provides a suction chamber having a suction port located at or near the bottom of the suction chamber. When suction fluid enters the suction chamber from below the fluid surface (eg, from a port on a side wall at or near the bottom), there is no disturbance of the fluid / gas interface and thus no disturbance of continuous water level sensing. Also, since the aspiration port is located at or very close to the bottom of the aspiration chamber, the fluid in the chamber is fully available for continuous reflux and push infusion.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to surgical systems and methods. In particular, the present invention relates to systems and methods for controlling fluid flow. More particularly, embodiments of the present invention relate to systems and methods for controlling the flow of fluid entering from the bottom of a suction chamber in a surgical system. Background technique [0002] The human eye can be damaged by a number of diseases ranging from mild deterioration to total blindness. While contact lenses and spectacle lenses can correct some minor disorders, other conditions require eye surgery. Generally, ophthalmic surgery is divided into a posterior course such as vitrectomy, an anterior course such as cataract surgery, and a combined anterior and posterior course. [0003] Surgical instruments used in ophthalmic surgery may be dedicated to posterior or anterior procedures or may support both. In any event, surgical instruments often require the use of...
