Ingress monitoring system and method

A system for monitoring reverse paths of a bi-directional cable communication network such as a CATV network, to detect and analyze ingress signals entering a reverse path and ending at a network sub-headend or headend through a corresponding one of communication lines, comprises a plurality of radio frequency signal detectors connected thereto. The radio frequency signal detectors are provided with bandpass filter for receiving a radio frequency signal within the frequency band used, to generate corresponding output signals indicative of the strength of the received radio frequency signal. The output signal generated by the frequency signal detector which is coupled to the communication line corresponding to the ingress signal carrying path is indicative of the strength of the received ingress signal with received reverse signals. The system further comprises a signal processor for analyzing the detector output signals through comparison with one or more predetermined ingress thresholds to generate an alarm signal whenever the ingress signal is detected. The system further comprises a control computer receiving the alarm signal to generate monitoring sequence control data indicative of the communication line corresponding to the ingress signal carrying path to be monitored. The system also comprises a selector switch having a plurality of inputs being connected to the communication lines and being responsive to the monitoring sequence control data to select the input connected to the communication line to be monitored, and signal monitoring instrumentation such as a spectrum analyzer and a broadband analyzer coupled to an output of the switching device and being responsive to the monitoring sequence control data for analyzing the ingress signal and generating alarm message data accordingly. The control computer receives the alarm message data to further generate diagnostic sequence control data for the monitoring instrumentation also used to determine source characteristics of the ingress signal.

Methods and apparatus for electronically detecting siren sounds for controlling traffic control lights for signalling the right of way to emergency vehicles at intersections or to warn motor vehicle operators of an approaching emergency vehicle

A siren sensor for detecting siren sounds emitted from emergency vehicles and electronic processing circuits for detecting and identifying the siren sounds electronically to control the traffic signal lights at an intersection to permit only the emergency vehicle to travel through an intersection with the right of way. The method and apparatus utilizes an acoustic horn in combination with a microphone for receiving the siren sounds and converting them to corresponding electrical signals. A conventional horn is modified to function as an acoustic lens to filter and amplify the siren sounds applied to the microphone. The modified acoustic horn and microphone combination comprise a tuned and directional audio sensor sensitive in the frequency range of an emergency vehicle siren. The electronic signal processing circuitry amplifies the resulting microphone signals to obtain the maximum sensitivity to the frequency spectrum of siren sounds. Detectors tuned to a harmonic of the siren signals is utilized for eliminating extraneous sounds along with unique filtering to band pass only sounds in siren frequency spectrum to a phase locked loop detector. The validity of the detected signal is verified by tracking a portion of the siren signal in pre-selected increment under time constraints to lock up and unlock the detector to verify a valid siren sound signal has been detected and provides a valid output signal for use in controlling a conventional traffic light sequencing control or to warn a motorist of an approaching emergency vehicle.

Method and device for spreading trace particles in supersonic PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) flow field testing experiment

The invention relates to a method and a device for spreading trace particles in a supersonic PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) flow field testing experiment. The trace particles are charged by using vacuum suction in a supersonic wind tunnel high-pressure high-temperature large-flow flow field environment, the trace particles are stored in a particle generator before the experiment, after a gas flow is injected, the gas flow and the trace particles are sufficiently mixed, pass through a high-pressure pipeline, are spread by a particle spreader and then enter a wind tunnel pipeline, the trace particles are uniformly spread under the condition of a high-Mach-number flow, and the trace particles are tested through a particle image velocity-measuring system. Compared with the prior art, the method and the device provided by the invention realize that the PIV trace particles are charged and uniformly spread in a high-pressure high-temperature large-flow flow field ambient condition, the probable agglomeration phenomenon of the trace particles in the injection process is effectively avoided, precise sequence control between a PIV system and wind tunnel operation is guaranteed, and the testing scheme corresponding to the spreading concentration satisfying the PIV operation requirement is determined.

Apparatus and method for automatically performing fluid changes

An environmentally sound apparatus and method for automatically extracting fluids such as lubricating fluids from a target reservoir such as a crankcase for a vehicle engine, and injecting the proper type and quantity of fresh fluid into the reservoir is disclosed. The apparatus includes one or more sources of lubricating fluid, a waste fluid tank, a pump, and a flow meter. A programmed microprocessor produces selected sequences of control signals to govern the flow of fluid among the fluid sources, the waste fluid tank, and the target reservoir in response to input identification information and signals produced by a flow monitoring pulse meter. Input identification information is compared with data in a stored database to determine the correct type and quantity of fresh fluid to inject. Operator identification information is compared with a stored operator database to determine what operations each operator is permitted to perform. A display and selection switches allows the operator to select from different procedure options. Evacuation, injection and clearing operations are initiated by an operator and executed automatically through status monitored sequences controlled by the microprocessor. All fluid exchange sequences are performed without exposing the operator or the environment to either waste or fresh fluid.
