[0017] refer to figure 1 , the medical system 100 includes a network adapter 12 that associates various devices with a user or patient 14 and configures these associated devices into a network. The network adapter 12 includes a first part 16 and a second part 18, the first part 16 is linked with the patient 14, at the first, second, ... nth peer device 22 1 ,twenty two 2 ,...twenty two n The second part 18 is contained within each of these peer devices, such as wireless medical devices, communication devices, and the like.

[0018] Examples of peer devices include: sensor nodes 22 1 , which is provided on the patient 14 to monitor vital signs such as electrocardiogram (ECG) data, heart rate, respiration rate, respiration cycle, blood pressure, etc.; and a communication device, such as a home television 22 as shown 2 , remote controller, VCR, cable box, computer, etc. The devices shown are examples and those skilled in the art could readily include additional or other devi...

Abstract

A system (10) automatically configures and sets up an ad hoc wireless medical network (40) is disclosed. Wireless peer devices (221, 222, , 22n) each includes a peer BCC interface module (241, 242, , 24n) for authenticating a patient and transmitting device identification of a selected peer device (221, 222, , 22n), and a short-range network interface module (301, 302, , 30n) for setting up communication connection between the peer devices (221, 222, , 22n). An active identification device (28), which is linked to the patient (14), authenticates each selected peer device (221, 222, , 22n) and automatically associates each selected peer device (221, 222, , 22n) with the patient (14). A patient BCC interface module (36), coupled with the patient (14), transmits network parameters from the active identification device (28) to the peer devices (221, 222, , 22n).

Description

technical field [0001] The following relates to network systems and methods. It finds particular application in connection with short-range medical wireless networking systems and will be described with respect to its specific references. However, it is to be understood that the following will also find application in connection with other network systems and the like. Background technique [0002] Short-range wireless systems typically have a range of less than one hundred meters, but can connect to the Internet to provide longer-range communications. Short-range wireless systems include, but are not limited to, personal area networks (PANs) and local area networks (LANs). Wireless PANs use low-cost, low-power wireless devices that typically have a range of around 10 meters. An example of a wireless PAN technology is the IEEE 802.15.1 Bluetooth standard. An example of a wireless LAN technology is the IEEE 802.11x wireless LAN standard. [0003] Typical short-range netw...
